Summary

Laugh-out-loud, deeply insightful, and emotion-filled essays from multi-talented actress, comedian, podcaster, and writer Casey Wilson。

Casey Wilson has a lot on her mind and she isn’t afraid to share。 In this dazzling collection of essays, skillfully constructed and brimming with emotion, she shares her thoughts on the joys and vagaries of modern-day womanhood and motherhood, introduces the not-quite-typical family that made her who she is, and persuasively argues that lowbrow pop culture is the perfect lens through which to understand human nature。

Whether she’s extolling the virtues of eating in bed, processing the humiliation over her father’s late in life perm, or exploring her pathological need to be liked, Casey is witty, candid, and full of poignant and funny surprises。 Humorous dives into her obsessions and areas of personal expertise—Scientology and self-help, nice guys, reality television shows—are matched by touching meditations on female friendship, grief, motherhood, and identity。

Reading The Wreckage of My Presence is like spending time with a close friend—a deeply passionate, full-tilt, joyous, excessive, compulsive, shameless, hungry-for-it-all, loyal, cheerleading friend。 A friend who is ready for any big feeling that comes her way and isn’t afraid to embrace it。

laughed, cried! long live Casey Wilson

Lauren

Funny, vulnerable, honest, and heart-breaking, Casey Wilson gives me a partner in living what I would consider a messy lifestyle。 One of the best celebrity memoirs I’ve read。

Solid entry into nonfiction sub genre of “celebrity essay collections” - some were great, some ok, some not so great。 I won’t remember anything about this in a few months, but it was a pleasant enough audiobook to listen to。

This woman is a genius with so much heart and humanity。 I wait with baited breath for her Bitch Sesh podcast every week。 High entertainment。 Her essays in here about the beloved housewives of Bravo and her eccentric parents gave me so much happiness。 This was good enough to warrant another listen in a few years。 I also might add that listening to this at the gym made my workouts far more tolerable。

Allison

Wonderful collection of essays that are easy to consume in a sitting or two。 Having heard some of them told on her Bravo show-focused podcast, it was nice to read more about her mother。 Laughter and tears throughout the course of my reading。 The audio version would probably be good。

This book was hilarious, heart warming, a delightful gem of a book of essays。 If you've ever listened to Casey's podcast Bitch Sesh, reading this book you can practically hear her voice tell the stories。 Great stories about life, grief, the Real Housewives, food addiction。 A must read。 I will definitely be re-reading this when I need a pick me up。 This book was hilarious, heart warming, a delightful gem of a book of essays。 If you've ever listened to Casey's podcast Bitch Sesh, reading this book you can practically hear her voice tell the stories。 Great stories about life, grief, the Real Housewives, food addiction。 A must read。 I will definitely be re-reading this when I need a pick me up。 。。。more

Thank you to Libro。fm’s ALC program for the audio of this book。 I wanted a fairly short, light hearted audiobook to listen to while cleaning and doing laundry today, and this seemed to fit the Bill。 I did not know who the author was and have not been exposed to any of her other work。 I think those who are already a fan would enjoy this a lot more than I did。 The humour didn’t really tickle my funny bone。 The exploration of grief and motherhood were interesting, I just don’t think I’m the target Thank you to Libro。fm’s ALC program for the audio of this book。 I wanted a fairly short, light hearted audiobook to listen to while cleaning and doing laundry today, and this seemed to fit the Bill。 I did not know who the author was and have not been exposed to any of her other work。 I think those who are already a fan would enjoy this a lot more than I did。 The humour didn’t really tickle my funny bone。 The exploration of grief and motherhood were interesting, I just don’t think I’m the target audience for this so it was overall a pretty neutral experience for me。CW: disorder eating, body image and shaming, substance abuse, 。。。more

I liked this because I love Casey Wilson。 Not a huge fan of the stream of consciousness, scattered writing style that tends to plague the modern memoir genre, but I liked all of her stories (particularly about her upbringing)。 Some topics are dealt with very seriously (motherhood, grief) while others are treated glibly (her marriage, professional failures)。 I would’ve loved more stories about her female friendships and getting started in comedy。

Polly

Hilarious and touching。

Stephanie Ray

I love Casey Wilson!! But not this book? I’ve you listen to bitch swag you’ve essentially read this book。 I also think I might be a little too young (lol barely) to relate but that’s fine, I’ll hit it back up when I’m married with kids。 Still it was written in a fun way

Lindsay Gafford

4。5 stars。 Casey is a delight, as always。

These comedian memoirs are really my niche lately。 Many many laugh out loud moments (including laughing so much I got kicked out of the room I was reading in 🤷‍♀️)。 Casey’s stories are hilarious, insightful, relatable yet self-aware and really touching。 I read the hardback book but I’m sure the audio version read by her would be even better。

Kris Patrick

There is one line that made me wonder if she was approached by HarperCollins to produce this book, which always seems a little icky to me。 Though I still love her。

Joey Cron

Loved so many elements of this。 I thought it was heartfelt and honest, but also there were also sections that were wickedly funny。 My one criticism is that the essays seemed to be laid out randomly, but i enjoyed my time。

Rhonda Bonifay

She is refreshingly herself and I’m here for it。

Biased rating alert! I’ve been such a massive fan of Casey for well over a decade, so there’s no way I could rate this anything less than five stars! While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea (real pop culture fiends will appreciate), there is a lot of heart in here。 Her essays about her family, particularly her motherhood journey and dealing with the loss of her own mom, are very moving and special。 I laughed out loud too many times to count。 Loved this collection from one of my favorite comedi Biased rating alert!
